Friends of ours that don’t have kids asked us an interesting question once “What’s the one thing that kids have changed in your life that you were unprepared for?” My husband answered “Everything takes 2-3 times as long to get done as it did before kids”. Isn’t that a simple truth!?!?!? The fact that everything takes so much longer led me to realize that I needed to get organized. I was always a little bit organized, but kids require a level of organization I would have made fun of before I had them.
One simple but oh so powerful trick I use is a snack basket. This helps me to keep my pantry snack shelf organized and clean, and saves me a lot of time. I purchase larger size packages of the snacks my kids like and then use snack size plastic bags to divvy them up. I just keep on top of it as I bring the new snacks into the house. I find this saves money for us a well since the individual size snack products are always more expensive. I purchased a simple plastic bin from Target, I think it was $6, and use this to hold my snacks. Then we just fill up the snack bin.
My older daughter loves it, I pull it out and let her pick her own snacks she enjoys. It saves me time on preparing the snacks when she wants them, which lets be honest kids always want snacks at the most inconvenient times, and it is so easy to grab a few snacks as we are heading out the door. My next post I will show you the rest of my pantry I have been organizing as well. Till then let me know what you thought.
